Jamaica’s Top Destinations

July 27, 2017 | By |

Jamaica is truly unique, with its gifts to the world including reggae music, fine rum, exquisite coffee and jerk seasoning. The island is also home to the widest variety of attractions in the Caribbean, with activities ranging from climbing stunning waterfalls to cycling in the Blue Mountains to golfing on some of the region’s best golf courses. Here’s a quick look at Jamaica’s top destinations.

Montego Bay
Mo’ Bay may be Jamaica’s premier tourist destination and the second-largest city, but it hasn’t forgotten its charm. Surrounded by great beaches, grand hotels, all-inclusive resorts and charming small hotels, Montego Bay is renowned for its beauty and range of activities.

Located at the western tip of Jamaica, Negril is about an hour’s drive from Montego Bay. Known as the “Capital of Casual,” this unspoiled paradise is famous for its natural beauty, free-spirited ambience and ribbon of white-sand Seven Mile Beach flanked by rugged limestone cliffs.

Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay
These gems are located in the heart of the north coast region, defined by fern-clad cliffs and cascading waterfalls. Known as Jamaica’s “playground,” both offer an almost endless variety of things to do. Accommodations vary from opulent resorts known for their privacy and impeccable service, to lavish all-inclusive properties or beautifully isolated inns and hotels.

South Coast
The winding roads through tropical forests seem to go on forever in this beautiful, seemingly untouched area known as the South Coast. Travellers in search of privacy and solitude will enjoy scenic seaside locations and isolated beaches, where the only footprints are their own.

Port Antonio
The quaint town of Port Antonio is a haven for visitors seeking quiet charm, natural beauty and lush surroundings. Port Antonio is where Jamaica’s tourist industry first gained international popularity, with the Titchfield Hotel established in 1905. This hidden gem is also known for its crystal-clear waters surrounded by lush greenery and boasting a backdrop of the Blue Mountains.

Resting at the foot of the Blue Mountains and overlooking the world’s seventh-largest natural harbour rests Kingston, Jamaica’s capital city. Kingston is the largest English-speaking city south of Miami and is the cultural heartbeat of Jamaica with its pulsating reggae rhythms, rich cultural history, sophisticated, upbeat nightlife and varied dining venues.

Jamaica by Shaggy

September 19, 2014 | By |

International Reggae star Shaggy has travelled the world, but Jamaica will always be home. This Grammy-winning, Platinum-selling “Mr. Boombastic” takes us to his favourite places.

The best local eats?

Definitely Screechie in Hellshire Beach (about 30 min. outside of Kingston) for sizzling fried fish and lobster.

Favourite spot for a night on the town?

That’s a toss up between Fiction Lounge and Famous Nightclub, depending on my mood.

Favourite music venue?

For me the absolute best music experience is a street dance. Local radio is great too. They play a lot of Jamaican classics and new artists.

Favourite place for a day at the beach?

Golden Eye Beach on the north coast
of Jamaica near Ocho Rios. And yes, it
was named by Ian Flemming, the James
Bond writer.

Favourite thing to do on a quiet afternoon?

Get in my car and drive up the mountain to Strawberry Hill. When it's hot, it's always cool in the hills.

Best place to hang out and experience Jamaican culture?

In the countryside. The food, people, and environment are always true Jamaica.

One essential to bring with you for a trip
to Jamaica?

Swim trunks, of course!

Why should we visit Jamaica at least once
in our lives?

So you can say, “I did it.”

What’s next for Shaggy?

Currently on tour, but keep an eye out for another album, and see you soon Canada on our next tour!
