What to Do in The Bahamas

May 25, 2017 | By |

Endless Beaches
Imagine powdery white sands caressed by the bluest waters, all framed by towering palms and the Caribbean’s lush greenery… Sound like the perfect beach? You’ll find plenty here that are populated with sun seekers, or secluded and just waiting to be discovered.

City Sights & Cultural Corners
Explore Nassau’s history at Fort Fincastle and the Queen’s Staircase, discover Junkanoo music at Educulture Museum and sample signature Bahamian cuisine at Arawak Cay’s seaside Fish Fry. With chocolate and cigar factories, a history museum and artist studios, Graycliff Heritage Village also makes for a fun-filled day trip.

Paradise Found
Get yourself an Aquaventure day pass and discover the world’s largest marine park, located at Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. It features a thrilling water slide and a mile-long river ride with high intensity rapids, as well as the Atlantis Aquarium, offering rock climbing and encounters with marine animals, including dolphins.

Historic Great Exuma & Little Exuma
Venture to George Town, in Great Exuma, to visit Wenshua Art Gallery, the Straw Market and St. Andrew’s Church. In Little Exuma, see what remains of an old cotton plantation, or head to the Salt Beacon and Tropic of Cancer Beach. The Hermitage and Steventon are home to historic tombstones and the golden statue of Pompey.

Exploring the Exuma Cays
Sail along the beautiful waters of the Exuma Cays. Visit Thunderball Grotto, swim with nurse sharks on Compass Cay, feed iguanas on Leaf Cay, watch the famous swimming pigs on Big Major Cay, and dive for gigantic starfish at Star Fish Bay. Go snorkelling and enjoy a picnic on a secluded beach, too!

Nebat Loves the Bahamas

February 24, 2016 | By |

Nebat Williams is the Lead Agent for Island Routes Caribbean Adventures at Sandals Emerald Bay in Great Exuma. He loves the Bahamas and takes us into the heart of the islands where setting sail, grabbing the reins, exploring lush tropics and tasting rich flavours are the experiences that become lasting memories.

Why is Island Routes the best in the Caribbean?

Island Routes was voted World’s Leading Caribbean Attraction Company by the World Travel Awards five times. We handpick the most memorable experiences from the highest rated tour providers across the Caribbean and combine them with seamless service and excellent safety standards.

What makes the Bahamas so appealing?

It’s a beautifully diverse region with endless turquoise water that has lots to offer in terms of culture, cuisine, landscape and people. Wherever you look there are hidden treasures that are bound to amaze you.

What’s the best excursion?

Hands-down, the best tour in the whole of the Bahamas is the Exuma Cays Ocean Safari! Where else do you get to swim, yes swim, with pigs?

One thing that will surprise us about the Bahamas.

I think the Bahamas is full of surprises, but honestly it’s the swimming pigs. From the moment you arrive by boat, they’re in the water swimming over to you! It’s a site you’ll never forget!

What’s your favourite place?

That’s an easy one! Love Me More Cay. It’s so picturesque and a perfect place for a romantic escape. It’s actually one of the sites guests can enjoy on our Secluded Castaway Getaway as well.

One local dish we all have to try.

It’s said that you can’t visit the Bahamas and not enjoy our seafood. Sandals’ Gourmet Discovery Dining lets you try delicious cuisines, and Gordon’s On the Pier restaurant serves popular seafood delicacies. Don’t leave without trying their Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail.

A magic place in the Bahamas, the Exumas

August 3, 2013 | By |

Of the hundreds of tiny islands in the Bahamas, the Exumas are the most exotic.

Swimming with pigs is a pretty strange activity to recommend for a beautiful destination like Great Exuma. If you’ve never heard of Great Exuma and its sibling Little Exuma, don’t worry. They are two of the islands that make up the spectacular chain of the Exumas in the Bahamas.

The perfect swing

November 1, 2010 | By |

Built on the beautiful island of Great Exuma, Bahamas, The Emerald Reef Golf Club, designed by the famous Greg Norman, is a stunning 18-hole, 7200-yard, par 72 course. Taking full advantage of the landscape, the front nine take you inland, into the native vegetation of a mangrove preserve. The back nine run along the coast, offering astounding ocean views and the sights and sounds of breaking waves. You couldn’t ask for a more amazing location.

Voted among the best courses in the Caribbean by Travel & Leisure Golf, this course is truly a golfer’s dream. “I worked hard to integrate what was there before into the way the fairways are now, so it’s a seamless flow,” says Norman, who has won 91 professional events around the world, including 20 U.S. PGA Tour titles. The result is quite simply a fantastic course with six signature holes. And with five tee boxes, golfers, from the most avid to the most inexperienced, will find a thrilling game.

Holes 11 through 16 are especially beautiful as they run along the turquoise waters of Emerald Bay. The 14th has one of the most spectacular tee shots in the Caribbean, surrounded on three sides by water. Number 12 was Greg Norman’s most difficult to design and a guest favourite. The trick to this one? Don’t be fooled by the amazing views. Aim middle to the right side of the fairway. The approach will require a well-struck ball. And for the dog-leg on the 16th, aim for the right centre of the fairway. A well-struck tee shot can set up a short iron approach to this well-bunkered green, making birdies a real possibility.

Experience this all for yourself while staying at the world’s first all-butler, oceanfront resort, Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, Bahamas.
